Israel Attacks Iran as Blasts Heard in Tehran

In the early hours of Saturday morning, reports emerged of significant explosions shaking Tehran, following statements from Israel that it had conducted a preemptive strike.

Loud Blasts and Plumes of Smoke Witnessed in Central Tehran

According to eyewitness accounts, two loud blasts were heard in Tehran on Saturday. Simultaneously, columns of thick smoke were observed rising over central and eastern districts of the Iranian capital.

“The nature of these blasts indicates that this is a missile attack,” one news agency stated, without initially offer additional information.

Background: Rising Tensions and Prior Developments

The incident occurs against a background of sharply increased tensions in the region. Key events leading up to this attack involve:

  • US Military Buildup: A massive build-up of American warships in the region, featuring the movement of aircraft carriers.
  • Diplomatic Negotiations: Recent talks between the United States and Iran on Tehran's nuclear programme ended inconclusively, with indications of further talks planned.
  • Official Rhetoric: Prior to the strike, a prominent American figure had labeled Iran as “the leading state sponsor of terrorism” and issued warnings regarding its missile program.
  • Ultimatum: Allegedly, a time limit of roughly two weeks had been given to Iran to settle the nuclear dispute or confront serious repercussions.

Iranian Response
